The Housmans World Peace Database, the main project of the Housmans Peace Resource Project, is now available online.
The Housmans Peace Resource Project was established in the early 1990s by Peace News Trustees primarily to develop the World Peace Directory which has appeared annually in the Housmans Peace Diary since its first edition in 1954.
On 26 April 2009, five members of WRI's Israeli affiliate New Profile were detained by Israeli police, their homes raided, and their computers, and also computers of partners, seized. Among those detained was also Sergeiy Sandler, a member of the WRI Council and Executive Committee. All those detained were interrogated at Ramat Hachiyal police station in the Yarkon Region of the police. After the interrogation, all five were released, but only after agreeing to bail conditions which do not allow them to contact each other in the coming thirty days.
From all over Belgium, by bus, bike, taxi, public transport and even by walking, hundreds of activists came to NATO's headquarters in Evere, Brussels. They tried non-violently to enter the NATO terrain and seal gates, windows and doors. At the same time, the NATO has been symbolically buried during a farewell ceremony. Today, this burial is still a symbolic act, but the will to turn this symbol into reality is very high.
Press release on the hand grenade attack against the Migrants’ House
Athens, 25 February 2009
Yesterday night, Tuesday 24 February, at around 10 pm, and while there was in full progress an open meeting against the new armaments plan, hosted by the Greek Association of Conscientious Objectors, an unknown person threw a hand grenade at the building that the meeting was taking place - the Migrants’ House at 13A Tsamadou Street in Exarchia - and then run away.
November 14. A group of Vredesactie activists block the gates of the Belgian Ministry of Defence, renamed Ministry of War, in a protest against the Belgian involvement in the war in Afghanistan. Their actions fits in the framework of a European action day against military infrastructure "War starts from Europe".
Belgium is at war. The country is involved in several military operations worldwide.
Like many—perhaps most—advocates for peace and justice, we at the War Resisters League are of more than one mind about the upcoming elections. We come from diverse political perspectives, including varying shades of socialism, anarchism, and reform-oriented liberalism, and have concomitantly diverse opinions within the organization and our membership about whether and how to engage elections.

We want to inform human rights organizations and government agencies of the threat made against our organization by paramilitaries calling themselves Las Aguilas Negras (Black Eagles).
The War Resisters' International - an international pacifist network with affiliated groups in about 40 countries countries - was horrified to learn of the torture, killing and mutilation of Luis Eduardo Guerra and seven of his companions, including three children, from the Peace Community of San José de Apartadó. Horrified, but - unfortunately - not surprised.
